AfrAsia Bank Sustainability Summit

Translating The SDGs into Your Business 11 – 12 October 2018

The objective is to bring local and international organisations together in order to share their knowledge and best practices on Corporate Sustainability.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AfrAsia Bank is committed to be more transparent on extra-financial indicators in terms of reporting and aims to become a leader in sustainability. The summit is poised to capitalise on the emerging prospects of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the Bank takes on an increased role in its sustainability efforts and pledge to strengthen its commitments to the SDGs agenda. This year’s conference theme, “Translating SDGs into your business” demonstrates the scale and ambition of our project as AfrAsia Bank resolve to shift the corporate world onto a greater sustainable and resilient path.

In today’s emerging dynamic global economic environment, financial reporting alone does not adequately capture how organisations are responding to the changing externalities and creating value for their stakeholders.

As triple bottom line accounting becomes mainstream, the Bank believes that an integrated view on sustainability, which looks at financial, human, social and relationship, natural, intellectual and manufactured capital, is the way forward. Starting in 2016, AfrAsia Bank has progressively transformed its business and annual report using international sustainability standards and frameworks, namely the Global Reporting Initiative, Integrated Reporting and the United Nations Global Compact.

Goals

The objective of this summit will be to focus on businesses and other professionals’ contributions and to put forward concrete examples illustrating how collaboration between different organisations are driving local impact on the SDGs as well as giving opportunities for businesses to connect in-person with local networks from around the world.

Businesspersons will be able to highlight how their businesses can take a leadership role in driving the sustainability agenda by integrating the SDGs in their corporate strategies. In particular, the role of building partnerships in delivering Local Sustainable Development dividends will be explored.
