The stories we tell as an organisation need to be rooted in reality. What we communicate (and how we do it) must reflect how we do business and the value we create in society. IBL’s brand promise of “Together” is anchored in our desire to create value and do things right, in all the markets we work in. It’s why we’ve invested in sectors such as renewable energy and healthcare in Kenya and elsewhere, addressing a market need. It’s the reason we’ve created GREAT – The IBL Academy, and invest so heavily in attracting and retaining the right talent. It’s why we’re continually innovating and digitally transforming our businesses, driving change instead of being led by it. And it’s why we focus on sustainability: because it’s a responsible, forward-thinking approach that builds trust with IBL’s stakeholders.

There’s a practical reason for doing the right thing. It’s harder for an organisation to thrive if its actions are met with distrust or if it operates in an unstable environment. Work environments with lower levels of trust tend to have lower morale and engagement. Whether or not you believe that happier employees are more productive, there is a proven link between psychological safety in the workplace and employee retention.

In short, it’s much more efficient – and enjoyable – to try to succeed together. Aligning our stated values and actions builds trust. That trust building process also relies on clear communication, both inside and outside our Group. Externally, it helps us share what IBL stands for and helping us attract the right talent, investors and partners. Internally, it keeps everyone on the same page, reduces misunderstandings, boosts employee engagement, and improves teamwork and productivity. It makes our workplace more harmonious and keeps us focused on common goals.

IBL’s magazine, together, was created to connect team members and share their stories, successes, and challenges.
