Sustainability at IBL

Sustainability is an indirect lever for long-term value: one shaped by our purpose and the realities of a changing world.

Together, we focus on three priorities: Rights & Wellbeing at Work, Climate & Energy, and Rights & Resilience in Communities.

Our approach

At IBL, sustainability is a journey. It starts with scanning the world and business ecosystems, and ends with inclusive actions that future-proof our impact.

The world around us is changing fast. Understanding these shifts helps us to make more informed choices, together. By first scanning the wider landscape, then zooming in on our own context, we can identify where to focus and how best to act.
Deepening

Deepening understanding

Change begins with learning and understanding. This belief shapes the way we work, deepening sustainability relevance through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and collaboration with our stakeholders - including our Business Units, the Embedding Project, and networks such as Business Mauritius and the UNGC Indian Ocean. Over the past year, colleagues at Head Office have dedicated 124 hours to sustainability awareness and training.

Using the Prioritisation Radar tool, 70% of our businesses have now assessed their double materiality. This helps us align with international sustainability standards and concentrate our efforts where impact matters most.
Building

Building accountability

Real progress starts with recognising our impact as a regional group. Already, 57% of IBL Mauritian operations have tracked carbon emissions setting a baseline. Along the way, we’ve identified three Group-wide priorities: protecting Rights & Wellbeing at Work, driving action on Climate & Energy, and strengthening Rights & Resilience in Communities.

Finally, we translate insights into action. Guided by the data, we’re now shaping measurable goals and interim targets that will keep us accountable, track our progress, and drive change over the long term.

Our Group sustainability priorities

To create lasting impact, we first need to understand what matters most. That’s why we adopted the Embedding Project methodology and developed our Prioritisation Radar tool. It helps each company map out its most material environmental, social, and governance issues in a structured way. To date, 70% of our businesses have completed their double materiality assessment and prioritisation radars, giving us a clearer picture of what to focus on as a Group.

From these priorities, we are in the process of defining goals and targets to guide our sustainability journey. The aim is to not only measure outputs, but outcomes as well: safer workplaces, lower emissions, and stronger communities. As we progress, we ensure transparency so that our actions and impact remain visible.
