Cold Room Manager

Froid des Mascareignes Ltd is looking to recruit a Cold Room Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our cold storage facility, which includes managing 16 cold rooms and a team of approximately 80 employees. This role is responsible for ensuring that all storage operations meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards while maintaining optimal performance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the operation of 16 cold rooms, ensuring temperatures and storage conditions meet required standards.
  • Oversee inventory management processes to maintain accurate stock levels, minimize waste, and optimize space utilization.
  • Coordinate with logistics and distribution teams to ensure timely dispatch and receipt of goods.
  • Supervise, train, and motivate a team of approximately 80 employees, including hiring, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, standards, and best practices.
  • Promote a positive and productive working environment by fostering teamwork and addressing employee concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety, and regulatory standards for cold storage operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure products are stored at appropriate temperatures and quality standards are maintained.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols to protect staff and goods.
  • Analyse operational workflows and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cold storage management.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure productivity, safety, and quality performance.
  • Coordinate regular maintenance of cold rooms, refrigeration equipment, and other facility assets.
  • Work with the maintenance team to address any equipment issues promptly, minimizing downtime.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, operations management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing a cold storage facility or similar warehousing environment.
  • Proven leadership experience with teams of 30+ employees.

Other Requisites

  • Strong knowledge of cold storage and inventory management systems.
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and regulatory standards related to cold storage.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in cold environments and handle physical demands and standing for extended periods.
